| Pancakes topped with Canadian maple syrup! |
I made homemade pancakes for breakfast this morning and I don’t want to brag, but they were delicious! Shopping for ingredients to make a dish that is not exactly part of the French culinary landscape was a little difficult, but I managed, and had the pancakes not been a success, I would have lay blame on our temperamental hotplate – it’s always at fault!
But enough about North American food and on to the good stuff, le vin français!

According to Wikipedia, “Beaujolais nouveau is a red wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region [just south of Mâcon] of France. It is the most popular vin de primeur, fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November [today!]. All of us Language Assistants were invited to attend a Beaujolais nouveau wine tasting at the cantine (cafeteria) of Lycée Lamartine. In addition to the wine, there was also fromage fort, which is a French spread made from leftover cheeses, white wine, garlic and various herbs, magret de canard (duck) and other various cheeses. You definitely know you are in France when you are having wine, baguette and camembert cheese for dinner!
